The IF4 is a simple reader or "peripheral device", with best in class dense reader mode performance, specifically designed with a RS-232 port for a cost effective solution for implementing RFID by attaching the reader to a programmable logic controller (PLC). When identifying relatively small numbers of items at a time, such as boxes traveling on multiple conveyor belts, cost savings can be achieved by deploying a single IF4 reader with four antennas instead of installing four separate readers with one antenna each. The Intermec IF4 serial reader is the ideal RFID peripheral for applicaŽtions where an edge server or ProgramŽmable Logic Controller (PLC) is used for process control. The IF4 reduces the comŽmunications burden on the network and processing demand on the host PLC. While reading and writing RFID labels and tags, the IF4 uses an air-interface protocol for filtering out unneeded tag data caused by multiple reads and tags not required for the application.

The IF30 is a cost-effective, high performance fixed reader that reliably reads and writes UHF RFID tags in "RF noisy" environments. The IF30's receive sensitivity enables large populations of tags to be interrogated at high speeds, which is critical to many use cases involving dock doors, portals and conveyors. In addition to reading tags at distances over 15 feet (4.6 meters), the IF30 can filter tag data to prevent sending redundant information to the host system. With best in class Dense Reader Mode performance, the IF30 fixed reader allows users to grow their RFID operations to include multiple dock doors in close proximity, thus enabling accurate, automated receiving and shipment verification. This drives more effective put away processes. Increased receive sensitivity allows the IF30 to interrogate weaker/unreadable tags that often lead to expensive exception handling processes and slower supply chain throughput.

Hosts applications written in Java, Java Script or C# .Net
By hosting applications written in Java, Java Script or C# .Net., the IF61 can filter, store and manipulate information from tags and send it to a server in the required format, while monitoring external sensors and controlling audible and visual indicators. For example, the IF61 can be programmed to store a day's worth of shipping manifests, compare the pallet tags it reads against the manifests in its memory, and drive a peripheral device to issue a visual or audible signal of a correctly or incorrectly loaded pallet. The IF61 can perform all of these tasks without the extra expense, and potential point of failure, of a separate industrial PC often required by other RFID systems. Additionally, the IF61 is the only RFID reader to provide a localized workbench to load, edit and run Java Script as a standard feature. The workbench allows programmers to test business logic directly on the reader, enabling faster application development while utilizing fewer resources.
